RAD is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The RAD system is a comprehensive, women-only course of instruction for ages 14 & up that begins with awareness, prevention, risk, and risk avoidance. It then progresses to teaching hands-on self-defense training, but it is not a martial arts program. RAD empowers women participants by teaching them the essentials of fighting back, and fighting back effectively!
The course is taught by New Choices in-house, nationally-certified RAD instructors, and provides each student with a manual that outlines the entire physical defense program which facilities students' personal growth and further serves as an information source after completion of the course. The manual is the key to our free lifetime return and practice policy for R.A.D. graduates. RAD's Lifetime Return and Practice Policy: Once you have completed a RAD course, you can attend any RAD course for free anywhere in the US or Canada!
The RAD System's instructional objective is to develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so such options become viable considerations to the woman who might be attacked. RAD gives females more options than compliance if they are sexually assaulted. Students learn to set boundaries with men and to become more aware of high-risk situations and environments. Although students are not asked to divulge that they are sexual assault survivors, many elect to do so. For those women, the course also provides an opportunity to discuss the feelings of guilt, shame and regret that a survivor may feel after an assaults. The final block of RAD training moves the focus from mental to physical Students learn and practice self-defense techniques, which include a combination of vocalizing and physical resistance.
